But before we do, we wanted to take a quick look at some of the reasons why couples choose to get married in the depths of winter…
Why Have A Wedding In Winter?
A summer wedding is a bit too cliché – Everyone wants their wedding to be a uniquely special and memorable occasion, yet the vast majority of couples still choose to get married in the Summer. In the UK, almost as many couples get married in August as they do between November-to-March. Bonkers isn’t it? Originality and individuality are key concepts for winter brides and grooms – they aren’t interested in following the crowd.
Better choice of venues, services, Suppliers & Dates – It follows that with considerably less competition, off-peak couples have a wider range of the best venues, services, suppliers to choose from. They also find it easier to secure their preferred wedding date too.
Reduced, off-peak rates – Couples who get married off-peak benefit from greatly reduced rates from venues, caterers and many other suppliers. They find that substantial savings can be made, often as much as 30% or more. Winter weddings therefore offer considerably better value for money than getting married at any other time of the year.
Who cares about the weather! – A winter wedding in the UK is likely to be cold or even freezing; maybe also grey, wet and miserable. But let’s be realistic here… it can be grey, wet and miserable in July or August! Winter brides and grooms accept the increased chances that the weather may be bad on their Big Day and plan accordingly from the outset. Whereas summer couples plan for decent weather and then spend months drawing up and worrying about back up plans in case of inclement weather. Winter weddings are therefore also less stressful to organise, especially the week before the wedding day when tensions are already overloaded no matter what season you choose to marry in!
Best time to take a honeymoon – A winter wedding is always followed by the most incredible honeymoon as couples swap cold, wet Blighty for sunnier climes! Popular winter honeymoon destinations include the Caribbean, the Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, S.E. Asia, S. Africa or even the S. Pacific. What better reason can there be for choosing to get married in the winter-time?
